National Bloc: Houthis Are the Iranian Regime’s Tool to Threaten Regional Security and International Shipping

The National Bloc of Political Parties and Components has affirmed that the Houthi militia’s continued attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its threats to international maritime navigation reflect its role as the Iranian regime’s military proxy in advancing Tehran’s regional agenda. The bloc warned that these attacks pose a direct threat to regional and international peace and security.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the bloc strongly condemned the Houthis’ ongoing attacks on Saudi Arabia and their repeated assaults on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, describing them as an extension of Iran’s destabilizing policies aimed at undermining regional security and stability. It stressed that the Yemeni people alone continue to bear the political, economic, and humanitarian consequences of these reckless actions.

The statement further noted that targeting civilian sites inside Saudi Arabia constitutes a blatant violation of international law and demonstrates that the Houthi militia has no commitment to peace or coexistence, but is instead pursuing an Iranian agenda that is disconnected from the interests of Yemen and its people.

The bloc also denounced the Houthis’ repeated attacks on commercial and cargo ships in the Red Sea, including Saudi and foreign vessels, among them the Indian ship that sank off the coast of Al-Hudaydah. It emphasized that such attacks pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation and global trade routes while endangering the lives of seafarers and maritime personnel. At the same time, it commended the efforts of the Yemeni Coast Guard and Navy in the Red Sea for carrying out rescue operations and providing humanitarian assistance to the affected crews.

The National Bloc stressed that the persistence of these attacks confirms that the Houthi militia no longer acts as an independent Yemeni actor, but rather as part of a regional network directed by Iran, which exploits Yemeni territory and the Red Sea as leverage to advance its strategic interests. This, the statement said, has deepened the suffering of the Yemeni people, prolonged the conflict, and undermined prospects for recovery and stability.

The bloc reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and with the victims of these attacks from various nationalities. It called on the international community to treat the Houthi attacks as organized acts of maritime terrorism and to adopt firm deterrent measures against the militia’s leadership and its Iranian sponsors, instead of relying on containment policies that have repeatedly failed to curb their hostile behavior.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that restoring the Yemeni state's full sovereignty over all national territory is the only viable path to ending the coup, eliminating Iranian influence in Yemen, safeguarding international maritime navigation, and strengthening security and stability in Yemen and the wider region. It also urged the international community to provide the legitimate Yemeni authorities with the political, economic, and military support necessary to restore the state and achieve lasting peace.
