The Yemeni Republican Party has called for urgent intervention by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to address the severely deteriorating humanitarian and service conditions at the Al-Wadiah border crossing. It urged the immediate provision of essential services, reorganization of operations, and the launch of a transparent administrative and financial investigation into the management of the crossing and its revenues.
The Party stated that it is closely following with deep concern and strong discontent the worsening humanitarian and service situation at the Al-Wadiah border crossing, which it said does not reflect the dignity of Yemeni citizens nor the scale of revenues generated by this sovereign state facility.
In its statement, the Party explained that the crossing, which serves as a vital artery for travelers, pilgrims, patients, and workers, is suffering from severe congestion and chronic mismanagement, alongside an almost complete lack of basic services, including sanitation facilities, prayer spaces, rest areas, and primary healthcare services. It further highlighted the absence of minimum humanitarian standards in dealing with travelers, who are reportedly forced to wait for hours and days under harsh and inhumane conditions.
The Party noted that the approach of the holy month of Ramadan and the expected increase in travel related to Umrah season heighten concerns over a further deterioration of the situation, which could lead to serious humanitarian suffering affecting citizens’ dignity and harming the image of the state and its institutions before brotherly nations.
The Yemeni Republican Party emphasized that the continuation of this unjustified neglect, despite the significant revenues generated by the crossing, raises serious questions regarding the management and allocation of these resources, and the responsibility of relevant authorities to direct them toward improving services and infrastructure. It described this failure as unacceptable and unjustifiable.
The Party called on the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to assume their national and moral responsibilities and to intervene urgently to address the deteriorating conditions at the crossing, ensuring the immediate provision of essential services, including adequate sanitation facilities, prayer areas, humane waiting spaces, as well as healthcare and guidance services.
It further called for the reorganization of operations at the crossing to reduce congestion, prevent overcrowding, ensure faster procedures, and uphold human dignity. The Party also demanded the opening of a transparent administrative and financial investigation into the management of the crossing and its revenues, ensuring that they are directed toward improving services rather than leaving citizens to suffer neglect and hardship.
The statement affirmed that the dignity of the Yemeni citizen is a red line, and that services at sovereign border crossings are not a favor but a fundamental duty of the state. It stressed that failure to fulfill this duty constitutes a breach of national responsibility that requires immediate and decisive action, not formal statements or postponed promises.
