The National Bloc of Political Parties and Components held a meeting on Tuesday, August 18, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, Chairman of the Bloc, to discuss the latest political and military developments in Yemen, particularly the escalating Houthi military offensive, backed by Iran, across the Marib, western coast, and other front lines.
The meeting concluded that Yemen is at a critical crossroads as a result of the Houthis’ continued aggression. The Bloc called on the Yemeni people to remain vigilant and prepared for all possibilities, stressing that the conflict will not end without defeating the Houthi coup and restoring the state, and that the battle must be comprehensive and decisive to bring the country’s crisis to an end.
The National Bloc condemned the Houthi escalation as a blatant violation of efforts toward de-escalation and a political settlement, describing it as a continuation of the militia’s aggressive approach and its alignment with a regional agenda that serves interests beyond those of the Yemeni people. It also condemned Houthi attacks targeting civilians and vital national assets, particularly the shelling of the strategic port of Mokha, residential areas, and internally displaced persons’ camps.
The Bloc commended the steadfastness of the Yemeni Armed Forces, the National Resistance, and popular resistance forces on various fronts in defense of constitutional legitimacy, Yemen’s unity, security, stability, and sovereignty. It called on the Yemeni people to support the resistance fronts and praised the national response to the decisions of the political leadership.
The meeting reaffirmed the Bloc’s full support for the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, and for all measures aimed at restoring state institutions and extending their authority across the country, stressing that this is the only path to ending the coup and restoring the authority of the Yemeni state.
The participants also rejected Houthi claims that the group is being subjected to a blockade, arguing that the militia itself has imposed an actual blockade on the Yemeni people through the continued seizure of public-sector salaries and the confiscation of national resources, as part of what the Bloc described as a systematic policy of impoverishment and coercion.
The National Bloc further condemned arbitrary practices against Yemeni women, including detention, abuse, and violations of dignity, holding the Houthi militia fully responsible for what it described as systematic abuses. It also denounced campaigns of defamation and smear attacks targeting women in the workplace, affirming that Yemeni women are an integral partner in building the state and that protecting and empowering them serves Yemen’s present and future.
The meeting concluded by stressing that victory over the Houthi coup can only be achieved through national unity and the protection of all segments of Yemeni society, individuals and groups, men and women, and state institutions. The participants prayed for mercy and forgiveness for the country’s martyrs, a speedy recovery for the wounded, and freedom for prisoners.
